MEGA began in 2016 with the launch of the Esports Awards, a show created to spotlight the people, teams, and brands shaping the future of competitive gaming. What started as a single night of recognition in London has grown into a global platform spanning events, media, and industry experiences.

Today, MEGA produces multiple award shows, including the Esports Awards and The Mobies, which has quickly become the go-to celebration for mobile gaming. But MEGA is more than just award shows.

We’re also home to Upwards, our full-service creative and commercial agency. Powered by an award-winning in-house production and broadcast team, Upwards delivers everything from content creation and social strategy to esports and tournament operations. We also offer commercial expertise that connects brands with the next generation of fans, players, and creators.

THE MEGA JOURNEY

2016

The Esports Awards (Originally dubbed The Esports Industry Awards) was founded in 2016 as a platform dedicated to recognising excellence across the esports industry. The first ceremony was held at The Brewery in London, setting the tone for a premium experience that would grow year-on-year.

Launched with the backing of key partners including NowTV, the show brought together players, teams, creators, and brands for a landmark night of celebration. What began as a bold idea quickly established itself as a flagship moment on the esports calendar.

2019

In 2019, the Esports Awards made its first major international move, relocating the ceremony from London to the United States. With the support of the City of Arlington, the show found a new home at the recently opened Esports Stadium Arlington, one of North America’s premier dedicated esports venues.

This marked a pivotal moment in the growth of the brand. It was the first time the Esports Awards was held outside of the UK and signaled a commitment to global expansion. Backed by a three-year agreement with the city, the move helped establish a long-term presence in the U.S. and brought the awards to a broader international audience.

2022

In 2022, the Esports Awards took the stage in Las Vegas, hosting the ceremony at the newly opened Resorts World Theatre, part of a $4.3 billion resort that also hosted global icons like Kevin Hart and Katy Perry. The move brought a new level of scale and prestige to the show, reinforcing its place as a leading global celebration in the esports calendar.

This year also marked the beginning of a new chapter. During the show, the launch of The Mobies, a dedicated awards platform for mobile gaming was officially announced. With this expansion, the Esports Awards laid the foundation for MEGA, the holding group created to house both properties and drive forward a broader vision for gaming and esports entertainment.

2023

Esports Awards
In 2023, the Esports Awards returned to Resorts World Las Vegas, this time taking over Zouk Nightclub, a state-of-the-art venue that brought a high-energy, immersive environment to the show.

In collaboration with Xfinity, the event made history by breaking the world record for the largest screen ever used to play a video game, cementing its reputation for pushing boundaries in live production.

The show’s innovation and execution didn’t go unnoticed. The 2023 edition earned multiple industry accolades, including the prestigious People’s Telly Award for Online Series, Show or Segment, and Best Use of AV at the EventMarketer Experience Design Awards.

The Mobies
2023 also marked the inaugural edition of The Mobies – The Mobile Gaming Awards, held in Los Angeles. The debut show attracted a star-studded lineup of presenters, nominees, and creators, quickly establishing itself as the premier celebration of mobile gaming.

In its very first year, The Mobies engaged the global gaming community with over 1 million votes cast, setting a strong foundation for future growth and global expansion under the MEGA banner.

2024

Esports Awards

In 2024, the Esports Awards entered a new era, signing a historic three-year partnership with the Esports World Cup Foundation to bring the show to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This move aligned with the launch of the Esports World Cup, positioning the Esports Awards at the center of one of the most ambitious esports initiatives to date.

Due to the growing number of categories and the scale of recognition required, two ceremonies were introduced for the first time. The inaugural event took place in Riyadh as part of the Esports World Cup closing celebrations, with a second show planned later in the year.

The Mobies
The 2024 Mobies returned to Los Angeles, this time recorded in front of a live studio audience, elevating both the energy and intimacy of the show. The event solidified its reputation as the leading platform for mobile gaming recognition, and for the first time featured over 20 game announcements, publisher reveals, and world premieres - a major milestone in bridging awards with newsworthy content and fan engagement.

MEGA’s Creative and Commercial Agency
MEGA’s agency work continued its rapid growth in 2024, delivering high-impact work across multiple international events.

Earlier in the year, the team partnered with Thunder Studios to assit in the production of the ARC World Tour Finals in Los Angeles.

Shortly after, MEGA was appointed as the lead agency for the Quadrant Halo HCS Major in London. The event marked a major milestone for Quadrant (an esports organisation founded by Formula 1 driver Lando Norris) and served as a standout activation in the global Halo competitive calendar.
